Name: Tseng
Fandom: Final Fantasy 7
History link: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Tseng
Age: 34
Canon point: Shortly after the events of FF7: Advent Children
Personality: On the outside, Tseng is very reserved and formal, at least when on-the-job - other members of the company probably frequently described him as having a stick up his ass. This is at least part-facade, although as he grew out of being a rookie and into the role of commander, it’s one he internalized to a certain extent, particularly when dealing with official matters. The Turks in and of themselves are something of a rogue element within the company, and justifying their continued existence requires playing hardball with most of the higher-ups. He’s also in the hard position of being an outsider, given that Shinra was more or less at war with Wutai (where it’s generally assumed Tseng is from) - thus enforcing the need for politeness when it comes to dealing with other members of the company.
He does have a sense of humor, although it is very dry, somewhat sarcastic, and well-hidden. He genuinely cares for the Turks under his command, although he tries not to show it, as he knows any kindness from him will make them soft, and in a Turk, that's a fast way to die. He also has a bit of a temper, and a tendancy towards grumpy mutterings (particularly when he hasn't had his morning coffee) - being a Turk means being a pessimist, because the worst-case scenario has to always be accounted for. And Tseng is the type to get a certain odd satisfaction out of grumbling - it’s the pressure release valve that keeps any major temper explosions in check.
In the two years since the fall of Shinra, he's loosened up somewhat - more likely to smile, to laugh, to tease - around his coworkers and employer. With nobody other than Rufus left to answer to, he can afford to let the facade of stoicism slip, instead of carefully guarding everything he says and does, although due to how unusual his life has been, he sometimes has difficulties relating to people who, say, haven't killed people with their bare hands. He also hasn't lost his edge with age - he's got a nasty streak, deep down inside, that loves the thrill of the hunt, and the power of a good fight, and if you threaten those he cares about, that will show itself.
